Hiring a ghostwriter: What’s the process?

Hiring a ghostwriter: What’s the process?

One of the things I always tell would-be authors and aspiring writers is a surprising amount of the ‘creative process’ is just that – ‘process’. That sounds boring right?

Actually ‘process’ is often what keeps the creative juices flowing and keeps projects ticking along when you would normally come to a creative block.

By all means test this … I am not here to tell you ‘thou shalt’ or ‘thou shalt not’ … but I am here to pass on my hard earned experiences and lessons learned. I too used to only write when I felt the Muse call me. Trouble is you can get hungry waiting on those flashes of inspiration. You need ‘Process’ to keep you going through those lean times when the Muse deserts you.

Believe me when I say, you will still be able to let your imagination run wild and free. You will still be able to channel messages from the universe – with the added benefit of knowing what to ask, and the added benefit of knowing where you are going – and the biggest benefit of all – you’ll be able to keep going!

If, however, you have decided to opt for the full ghostwriting service to write your book the initial process/discussion points will look like this:

  1. Initial Contact
  2. The Complete Brief
  3. The Deadline
  4. Attribution Level (discussion/agreement)
  5. Copyright Ownership/IP
  6. Royalties
  7. The Budget/Fees
  8. How these Fees will be paid:
    hourly/ daily/ weekly / monthly / project price / retainer rate
  9. The Ghostwriter Agreement (which includes the commissioner’s responsibilities in working in a timely manner with the ghostwriter to progress/complete the project.
  10. Project Management/ Milestones /Scope of Works
  11. Monthly Reporting

If you opt for a personalised mentorship programme a similar process takes place in order to identify your specific requirements.

This initial phase is an exciting time. It marks the beginning of your journey towards seeing your dream become a reality! Let the magic unfold!
